~ROAD TRIP~

Call us spontaneous! Brad and I decided at the last minute on Friday to take a little overnight road trip. We threw a few clothes in a bag and headed out to . . . hmmmm. Where should we go??? Well, we decided to see something that we've not seen before. We went to Thatcher/Safford. What fun!! We started out kind of late so it was dark from Globe on in to Safford so we didn't really see much of the view getting there. Brad did make the comment that we had totally become my parents. They used to do this kind of thing all the time. In fact, once I tried all day to get a hold of my mom and when I finally did she explained that her and dad went to Missoulla, Montana for dinner! Who does that????? Craziness! Anyway, we had dinner at a yummy little Mexican restaurant called Casa Manana. Then we checked in to the Day's Inn. Guess who was there to greet us?

I was scared to death. Brad told me he just saw a program on TV about these yucky creatures in Australia and that they kill people. Gee, thanks for sharing that tidbit!!! I was sure I was going to dream of creepy bugs all night long but luckily I didn't.

This morning we got up and had breakfast and drove around the big, booming town of Safford and Thatcher to see what we could see. The first thing on our list was President Spencer W. Kimball's childhood home.

We also saw the small college that is there. Until just a few weeks ago I had never even heard of Eastern Arizona College. One of my co-workers has a daughter that will be attending there in the fall but even until today I didn't realize that it was in Thatcher. It's a cute little campus with only about 1400 students. Just the kind of college I would like to have attended.

I have to say that the valley there is absolutely beautiful! It reminded Brad so much of the area of Idaho that he lived in. There are huge mountains all around. I so miss the mountains. I mean REAL mountains!

It was really fun to see something new but it didn't take a very long time so we headed for home. As we were driving along I started to notice all the flowers lining the roads. I mean there was literally a carpet of purple, orange and yellow flowers for miles and miles along the road, all the way into the Phoenix valley!!! I couldn't resist pulling out my camera and getting some pictures of the desert in bloom. Enjoy!
