So, it has been quite the afternoon!! Brein had just left for school and I put the dogs out in the backyard and went into my bedroom to fold laundry and Brad was in his office working. Within 5 minutes or less, I heard Brinkley yelping. My first thought was that Baxter got too rough with him as they were playing - which happens on occasion (go figure!). Anyway, the yelping continued so I opened the door to the backyard from my bedroom and found Brinkley clinging to the side of the pool for dear life! I ran and grabbed him out of the pool and saw that blood was coming out of his mouth. Now, honestly, I wasn't totally shocked that he was in the pool. He climbs on the fountain all the time and I've scolded him over and over! He's so naughty. But when I was that he had blood coming out of his mouth and that he was struggling to breathe I got really scared! I called to Brad as Brinkley collapsed on the patio. He was really having a hard time breathing and you could hear the gurgling and wheezing sound coming from him. He couldn't keep his eyes open and I was sure that we were going to lose him at any moment! While Brad watched over him I called the vet and they said to rush right over. Well, they took us right in and took his temp - which is supposed to be 101 degrees but was down to 98. They took X-Rays and saw that his lungs had liquid in them. They gave him a shot that helps pull the liquid from the lungs into the kidneys and also gave him a shot of antibiotic to try to prevent Pneumonia from developing. The blood coming from his mouth ended up being some of the fluid that was being expelled from his lungs. Scary! The poor little guy!!! It was too much to take! Now we're home and he's doing just fine except that he's peeing all the time because of the shot they gave him to clear his lungs. I've got to watch him every second - which is just fine with me right now. The poor little stinker is absolutely exhausted. It really wiped him out! I'm just so dang grateful that it all turned out fine and he's going to be okay.
