Our sweet boxer dog, Baxter, has had a problem with his leg for quite some time. We took him to the vet a while back and they said it was his hip and they put him on anti-inflammatory meds. They seem to have worked for a while and then stopped helping him. The other day he was crying because he was in so much pain and he hasn't been using his bad leg. I took him into the vet again and they said that it isn't his hip, it's just above his knee. They said that it's one of 2 things: Valley Fever (common illness here in AZ) or bone cancer. They drew blood and we settled in for a long wait. Okay, we LOVE this dog!!! He is the best dog ever and he's such a sweetheart! They just don't get better than Baxter.
We finally got the phone call today and we are THRILLED to report that it's Valley Fever!!!! If it had been cancer we would have put him down because there really isn't much you can do to treat it or a cure for it. As for the Valley Fever, Baxter will be on meds for at least a year. The vet said some dogs are on it for life and some respond really well. We will just have to wait and see. I'm so glad that we get to keep Baxter as part of our family!!!

Oh YAY!!! I'm so glad it is Valley Fever!! Alice & Alan's dog, Diesel, had valley fever and once he was on the medication he was okay.
SO HAPPY!
Hurray! Hang in there, Baxter, and the rest of you McMillans! I hope this medicine does the trick!
